De Sousa & Fils Champagne Brut Réserve n.v.

I visited, few years ago, this maison of Avize, where a passionate conversation with Erick De Sousa, has allowed me to understand the company's philosophy, placing first the work in the vineyard and the quality of the grapes. Two concepts that, I meet exactly in the glass. De Sousa's company - organic certified since 1999 and Demeter in 2014 - is in strong and continuous quality growth, since the entry-level products.

This is 100% Chardonnay, from vineyards of the Grand Cru villages of Avize, Cramant, Chouilly, Oger and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, only the tête de cuvée, nearly 30 months on yeasts, no filtration, disgorgement November 6th 2013.
The most observant will have noticed that, however, the label does not claim "blancdeblancs grand cru", due to the fact that is the old habillage.

Fresh nose of pain d'épices and croissants, in which, generously, stand out, as a precise profile of white fruit, with pear and peach, grapefruit, lemon and green apple, as a sharp and decisive mineral personality, made of depth sea aromas. Shades of white flowers and hay, adorn this clear olfactory tale.

Freshness and droiture continue on the palate, with sips growing in complexity, despite an effervescence, a barbed wire, attenuates the full expression of aromas, keeping, however, correlation with the olfactory profile.
Elegant culmination of chalky salinity, with touches of citrus, coffee and almond paste.

Domaine Michel Gros Nuit Saint Georges «Les Chaliots» 2009

A normal village, with a convinced and convincing premier cru march, including price.

The nose detailing its spectrum through fresh and accurate notes of blueberry and blackcurrant, raspberry and strawberry, to move, then, around touches of dried flower and flourish on the classic and subtle spicing, unmistakable characteristics of Pinot Noir.

Full adherence to the palate, with freshness of red berries and that right acidity developing continuous salivation. Beautiful tannic texture, tough but already harmoniously inserted in a refreshing finish of pomegranate, black pepper and licorice.
